The 2009 FORMULA 1™ ING Australian Grand Prix brings together the country’s premier motor sport event with a world-class entertainment offering, all set in the country’s most stylish city.
We’re going all out to make the 25th running of the Australian Formula One Grand Prix the best yet.
Each year since 1996, Melbourne’s spectacular Albert Park has provided the perfect stage as the city plays host to the opening round of the Formula One World Championship.
But the Grand Prix is so much more than edge-of-your-seat motoring excellence. A line-up of unparalleled support categories combine with world-class entertainment, a vast choice of dining options and a festival atmosphere to leave you with memories that will last a lifetime.
And it’s all set just a few kilometres from the heart of Melbourne.
Last year, more than 65,000 people stayed on after the main race to see legendary rock act KISS serve up an amazing conclusion to the Grand Prix by performing a full two-hour concert extravaganza with pyrotechnics.
Well, in 2009 we’re taking it up a notch. Make sure you’re there on race day Sunday to witness one of the greatest bands of all time bring the curtain down on what is shaping up to be the biggest Grand Prix in Australia’s history.
Few bands can lay claim to being among rock royalty. But British rock gods The Who must surely feature on any list of the best bands of all-time.
With hits including ‘Who Are You’, ‘Substitute’, ‘My Generation’, ‘Pinball Wizard’ and ‘You Better You Bet’, The Who were a soundtrack for a generation.
Performing in their only Melbourne show, The Who will take next year’s Australian Grand Prix to a whole new level with a spectacular concert to herald the conclusion of the opening round of the Formula One World Championship.
The addition of The Who to the Albert Park line-up for 2009 is one of a number of new initiatives aimed at making this year’s Grand Prix the most entertaining ever held in the 25 years of the great race in Australia.
The ever-popular V8 Supercars will return in the Sprint Gas V8 Supercars Manufactures Challenge. This exciting new format creates the ultimate showdown between Holden and Ford. The V8 boys will battle it out once more at Albert Park to determine which make is the greatest.
