Walk Against Warming

Posted on 10 November 2008 by admin

Last year Walk Against Warming saw record numbers of people take to the streets to demand real action against climate change. Two weeks later we had a new federal government, and within a month, Australia had signed the Kyoto protocol.

This year, we need urgent action more than ever. Without greater leadership from Australia and a strong commitment to significantly reduce our carbon pollution, we face losing many of our most special natural icons, like the Great Barrier Reef and the Australian Alps, to climate change.

Walk  Against Warming will be taking place just as the Government is considering whether it will set a weak or strong target for reducing Australia’s carbon pollution. So it’s the perfect time to remind Kevin Rudd that we Australians care about our unique land, especially for our future generations.

Walks take place around the country on Saturday 15th November:

Melbourne: Federation Square, 1pm
Sydney: Martin Place, 11am

Brisbane: Queens Park (next to casino), 12.30pm
Perth: Cottesloe Beach, 10am
Hobart: Cornelian Bay, 12pm
Adelaide: Rundle Mall, all day Friday 14 and Saturday 15 November

Plus there are more walks in regional towns listed on the Walk Against Warming website.

Book it into your diary today – please bring along everyone you know to show our leaders that the whole community wants action against climate change now.
