Ice rocks and relentless rain hit Melbourne on the 6th March 2010, in its wake a mass devastation with repairs estimated in the millions. While some viewed the wild weather as an opportunity to pull out the paddles and swim in the streets others were dealt body blows from the pelting ice and suffered severe injuries from direct impact.
The torrential downpour caved in roof tops, streamed through subway stations with hail catapulting cars, breaking branches and busting up windscreens. Labeled a ‘freak storm’ the worst Melbourne has seen in over 20 years, meteorologists and climate researchers predict more wild weather like this is on its way!
Caused by extreme humidity resulting in a build-up of atmospheric pressure the storm is indicative of climate change as nature sends us a direct message “buckle up and brace yourselves the ride has only just begun.”
Weather reminders that have cumulus effect on community and business force people to face facts and reconsider their impact on the environment.
With the balance disrupted by growing populations that stress our resources and cause irreversible damage to our planet, this storm and other environmental disasters maybe the only way to shock society into saving the earth before it’s too late.
