Tiny Capital

by Action Advisor on April 1, 2012

A delightful visual sequence by Eirik Evjen comprised of 76 940 single photos, edited as a video that showcases the construction and culture of Oslo, Norway.

Norway has recently reached 5 million inhabitants and the capital is growing rapidly. The city scene in Oslo is steadily thickening with taller buildings, more people and the never-ending construction sites. Stars from the Space Station

by Action Advisor on March 26, 2012

This visually stunning footage by AJRClips features timelapse videos depicting the stars from low earth orbit, as viewed from the International Space Station.

Images were edited using Adobe Lightroom with some cropping to make the stars the focal point of each shot, and with manipulation of the contrast to bring out the stars a bit more. The piece is dedicated to those who dream of exploring the solar system, and those who are sharing their experiences while doing it.

While altruism should not have evolved, ants are the most selfless creatures on the planet – giving themselves up for the good of the the ant colony.

Why does this happen?

Pulitzer Prize winning co-author of “The Ants,” ASU Foundation Professor Bert Hölldobler, a member of the new Center for Social Dynamics and Complexity at ASU and a sociobiologist, speaks about his experiences with ants and why they are so important for understanding the human species.

You can hear Hölldobler talk at the ASU Origins Project event “War and Peace in the World of Ants” at 6 p.m., March 30, in the Life Sciences A building, room 191.
